St. Patrick's Cathedral and Natural History Museum

Today will begin with delicous bagels at Tompkins Bagels, their Avenue A location. You may choose to eat inside or across the street at Tompkins Square Park. After breakfast you will make your way to Midtown for 12 p.m. Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral. After the service, head to the Upper West Side for a picnic lunch in Central Park, across from the American Museum of Natural History. You have timed entry tickets for the Museum at 2:30 p.m. After the museum, you will have some time before dinner. This could be a good time for a driving tour of the Upper West Side along the Hudson River or around the perimeter of Central Park. You will end the day with dinner at Jacob's Pickles, featuring southern accented comfort food.

 

Morning

10:00 a.m. Breakfast: Tompkins Square Bagels, 165 Avenue A. If weather is favorable you may want to eat across the street at Tompkins Square Park.

Afternoon

12:00 p.m. Mass at Saint Patrick's Cathedral.

1:15-2:15 p.m. Picnic Lunch in Central Park (across from the Museum of Natural History).

2:30-5:30 p.m. Museum of Natural History. Use the accessible entrance at 20 W. 81st St.

6:30 p.m. Dinner: Jacob's Pickles, 509 Amsterdam Ave. Reservation under Bill Owens.

*Since you have a free hour before dinner, you may want to have your driver give you a driving tour around Central Park, or the Upper West Side along the Hudson River. A nice way to rest your feet and see some of the city prior to dinner.

Central Park and Midtown Hotspots with Sarah Funk!

You will be spending all day today with Sarah Funk as your personal tour guide! Your day will feature a tour of Central Park and it's gardens and various landmarks and lunch at the iconic Loeb Boathouse. The second half of your day will be a tour of Midtown hot spots including the New York Public Library and Grand Central Terminal concluding with a visit to Top of the Rock. Dinner will be at the Burgary.

Morning

10:00 a.m. Meet-up with Sarah at the Pulitzer  Fountain (764 Central Park South) for a tour of Central Park including the Conservatory Garden, Strawberry Fields, The Swedish Marionette Cottage, Bow Bridge, Bethesda Terrace and the Mall, etc.

Afternoon

12:00 p.m. Lunch: Central Park Boathouse. Reservation under Bill Owens' name and cell phone number.

1:30-4:00 p.m. Tour of Midtown Hot Spots including the New York Public Library, Grand Central Terminal and some window shopping along 5th Avenue.

4:00 p.m. Admission to Top of the Rock (Sarah's ticket is included)

Tuesday March 15th

Upper West Side, Hudson Yards and Chelsea.

Your day will begin on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with brunch at Sarabeth's and a visit to the West Side Community Garden with Bill's friend, Jim Papoulis. Next, you will head south to Hudson Yards, NYC's newest and largest development where you can walk the grounds and see the Vessel, browse through the Shops and Restaurants and go to the Edge if you wish. After bringing Mr. Papoulis back home you will drive through the Chelsea neighborhood to see the iconic brownstones before stopping for dinner and shopping at The Chelsea Market. After dinner you will head back uptown to Times Square for the Lion King and stop for an after-show-treat at Ray's Candy Store before returning home.

Iconic Parks and Lower Manhattan

Your day will begin in Madison Square Park where you can walk around (or stay in the van, if you prefer) and see the Flatiron Building. Next, you will head south to Union Square Park where you can browse the Greenmarket and walk to Strand Bookstore. From there you will grab some pizza slices at the renowned Bleecker St. Pizza and take them to eat at Washington Square Park.  After a late picnic lunch you can drive to Public School 42 prior to your visit to the Tenement Museum and dinner at the famed Katz's Deli. NOTE: All timing is flexible today up until your admission to the Tenement Museum. Take your time and/or be spontaneous!

St. Patrick's Day: Midtown/ Lower Manhattan with Sarah!

Today will be another full day of touring New York City with Sarah Funk as your personal guide, focusing on all things Irish! You will meet for a traditional Irish breakfast at Connolly's Pub before heading over to the St. Patrick's Day Parade. The afternoon will include an extensive tour of lower Manhattan covering major landmarks with an emphasis on Irish history. You day will conclude with dinner at the iconic Fraunces Tavern.

Morning

10:00 a.m. Arrive at the grandstand for viewing the 2022 NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade! The parade starts at 11:00 am but we need to arrive early to get our seats in the grandstand. Sarah has the tickets and will bring bagels/coffee for breakfast. The grandstand is located at 64th Street and Fifth Avenue (enter at Madison and 64th street). 

Please note that business dress code is enforced in the grandstand (no jeans or sneakers). If you would like to change afterward, please bring clothing that can be left in the car. 

 

Afternoon

2:00-5:00 p.m. Tour of Lower Manhattan and the Financial District focusing on Irish History. Bill has specifically requested to see the Charging Bull and the Fearless Girl Statues.

Evening

5:00 p.m. Dinner: Frances Tavern. 54 Pearl St. There will be live Irish music in the bar area starting at 6:00pm. Reservation for party of 6 (not sure if Sarah will join) under Bill Owens' name and cell phone number. 

Friday March 18th

Statue of Liberty, Lower Manhattan and Broadway

The majority of your day today will be spent touring The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Afterward, if you have time, you may want to visit the Oculus before your admission to One World Observatory. Dinner will be at Serafina in Tribeca prior to your Broadway Show, Aladdin at the New Amsterdam Theater.

Morning

10:00 a.m. Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island via Statue Cruises. Security screening and boarding at Castle Clinton National Monument in Battery Park.

  • Pack lots of snacks or bring money for the snack bar on the Ferry or for the Cafe at Liberty Island. It's a long day on the boats and touring.

Afternoon

If you have time after Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island you may want to visit the Oculus shopping center at the base One World Trade. There are shops and several grab-and-go food options inside.

Little Italy, Chinatown and Brooklyn with Sarah.

Today starts with walking and exploring Chinatown and Little Italy, with lunch at Da Nico on Mulberry St. After lunch you will go to the 9/11 Museum before meeting up with Sarah for a guided tour of DUMBO Brooklyn including photo opportunities and dinner at the famed Timeout Market.

Morning

10:00 a.m. Chinatown and Little Italy walking tour. 1 mile. Follow the map below. You will finish your walk on Mulberry Street where you will have lunch at Da Nico.
